Shooting of 'Maharajdhiraj' Begins at Sri Lanka Island
5/19/2026
The shooting of the upcoming Nepali film Maharajdhiraj, directed by Parichhed Sen, has officially commenced. The project was formally launched with an auspicious ceremony (shubha muhurta) accompanied by traditional panchebaja music at the Bangalamukhi Temple in Lalitpur on Baisakh 22. The actual filming, however, has kicked off at Sri Lanka Taapu (Sri Lanka Island) located in Barahkshetra, Sunsari. According to presenter Biraj Bista, the shoot will take place at that location for approximately one week.
The film carries a 70-day shooting schedule and features a cast of over 80 actors, including Nir Shah, Ramesh Upreti, Pushpa Khadka, Aryan Sigdel, Pooja Sharma, Keki Adhikari, Usha Rajak, Gajit Bist, Jayakishan Basnet, Mohan Niraula, Dinesh DC, Sushil Sitaula, Hiuwala Gautam, and many more. The story is said to revolve around the character Adhiraj, portrayed by Pushpa Khadka.
The film is being produced under the banner of Chhatreshwar Management, with the script penned by director Sen himself. This is Sen's second directorial venture — his debut film Premganj (2022) was released to strong critical acclaim. After two years of preparation, he is now bringing Maharajdhiraj to the screen.
Produced by Rabi Khadka, Shivraj Poudel, and Topendra Bist, the film is targeting a release on Phulpati during this year's Dashain festival. The production team has not yet disclosed details about the plot, though the title itself strongly hints at a period drama set in a historical era — Maharajdhiraj translating to "the greatest king" or "emperor."
